Leak Detection

Date: 01-10-2020

Leak detection is a specialised field that requires a plumber to have specific equipment in order to quickly and accurately locate a leak.  Cadia Group has an extensive range of detection devices to suit any application.

Accoustic Listening Devices

Burst pipes can cause extensive structural wear and tear as well as costly water damage to a property.  With the use of an accoustic listening device, it allows the operator to hear along different points of a pipe, assisting the operator to accurately isolate the location of an internal burst pipe without invasive exploratory works.  Listening sticks transmit a sonic vibration and are fully insulated to reduce the risk of electric shock to the operator.

CCTV Imaging and Drain Inspections

Blocked drains are extremely common and can cause a lot of structural issues to a property if left untreated over a significant period of time.  Blocked storm water drains from a build-up of debris can result in an overflow, flooding the ground around a property.  Drains can crack from root intrusion also making way for water to escape and saturate the area outside the location of the drain. This can often result in ground movement and can cause internal cracking or structural damage to the property.

For commercial and underground applications, Cadia Group are a leading distributor of Vivax-Metrotech drain pipe camera systems.

Most of the time, when there is a blockage or fault somewhere in the underground utility system, it is incredibly difficult to pin-point precisely where it is.

Vivax-Metrotech drain pipe camera systems give you the flexibility to cover a range of inspections including indoor drain lines, council collection systems, residential plumbing, indoor commercial lines and lateral lines from 50mm up in diameter.  Vivax-Metrotech sewer inspection camera systems use the latest technology packaged in a rugged, lightweight, compact profile made specifically for the harsh conditions related to sewer and pipe inspections.

Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is used to accurately and non-intrusively pinpoint the source of the most difficult leaks.  By sensing infrared vitaluty often associated with moisture, our range of thermal imaging cameras allow us to see behiond walls and into ceilings.  This gives the operator the most accurate perception of what is going on, with no structural damage.

Water leaks and moisture infiltration can cause serious damage to a house or commercial building and can be difficult to detect until it is too late/. Using a thermal imaging camera and under the right circumstances, it is possible to find hidden water and moisture issues without resorting to destructive testing.

There are many sources of building mositure, including humidity (during any season), condensation, pipe leaks, rain and snow and even people and animals breathing.  Usually a low level of mositure is fine, but leaks or heavy condensation can cause serious problems.  A thermal imaging camer cannot "see" moisture in walls but it can detect subtle temperature differences and patterns that reveal the existance of water.

A thermal imaging camera capable of detecting moisture needs to have a high resolution and great thermal senstivity (NETD), meaning that small temperature differences will be detectable and displayed.

In the case of thermal sensitivity, the lower the better, so a camera with 30mK sensitivity is great for moisture applications, while a 100mK sensitivity camera is better suited for industrial applications and detecting large temperature differences.

In addition, it is best to use a camera that allows you to manually adjust the level and span of the the thermal image.  Moisture problems appear best when the image is adjusted for about a 10-20 degree celcius span, which helps even minute temperature differences stand out.

Moisture Readers

Internal moisture can be hard to see but dangerous if left untreated. Overtime, organic growth or mould can spread which can be costly yo remove and damaging to your family's health.  Moisture readers can detect levels of mositure in walls and ceilings, allowing you to take the next appropriate steps quickly.
